In the 1920’s Charles Schaffer Sr. and Milford Johnson purchased Mead Clark Lumber in Kingsburg CA, renaming it Citizens Lumber Co. Kingsburg.
Later Citizens Lumber Kingsburg was purchased by Don Johnson and his brother. The Johnsons renamed the business Johnson Lumber. Charles Schaffer Sr. and his sons sold the pictured Kingsburg CA, location in the 1960’s.
In 1951 his son Brooks Schaffer Sr, Charles Schaffer Jr, and Roy Anderson purchased Dinuba Lumber Co.
Charles Schaffer Jr ran Citizens Lumber Reedley. Throughout WWII Charles Schaffer Sr. ran his Kingsburg location. His son Charles Schaffer Jr and his wife Eileen operated the Reedley location prior to and during WWII. When Charles Jr went off to war in England as a radio man on a B-24 his wife Eileen ran Citizens Lumber Reedley.
Stanley Schaffer, Charles’s other son and his wife Edna Erle was in the Pacific during WWII. Stanley and Edna Erle Schaffer went on to start and become very successful with Schaffer Laboratories.
Brooks Schaffer Sr was a WWII vet as well as being a participant in D-Day. He then went on to run Dinuba Lumber Co. for 66 years with the help of his two sons Brooks Jr and James. James went on to become a teacher.
Brooks Jr grew up working in the lumber business. At 5 years old he started scaping raisins off the floor with razor blades. He worked weekends and after school and ran the counter when he was in grammar school. Brooks Jr. has helped customer in a one-on-one manner for over 50 years. In the 1980’s he helped his father and uncle run Dinuba Lumber Co, Citizens Lumber Selma, and Citizens Lumber Reedley.
In the early 2000’s Brooks Jr became President of Dinuba Lumber Co. He was instrumental in helping Dinuba Lumber become an ACE Hardware. He started Dinuba Equipment Rental business and the Trailer Haul ready mixed concrete business.
